As the song goes …
Oh what a night!
The Cyber Security Awards 2016 in London was once again attended by over 200 of some of the most talented and hardworking people in Cyber at the moment.
The glittering event held at London’s 5* Chelsea Harbour Hotel was hosted by Bennett Arron, a brilliantly funny and intelligent comedian who has real world experience in Cyber, having had his own identity (and life) stolen from him. His take on our profession is subtle and incredibly human. I would urge you to watch his documentary about his experience at the hands of real-world criminals operating in the virtual-world.
Neill Johnstone, MD of Lorega and I spent the night mixing with the cream of the Cyber Industry, and a good time was had by all (at least they did on our table!)
And the winners are…Agenci & Lorega
I have to say that being shortlisted for ‘Cyber Personality of the Year’ was (and is) amazing, unfortunately I lost out on this occasion to Mike Loginov. But I don’t mind that, as he genuinely deserves the award. However…We we also shortlisted in the ‘Insurer’ category too. And…
I’m very proud to say that Agenci, along with our partners Lorega picked up the award in that cateogy, for our ‘Cyber Recovery’ product which is an insurance product aimed at the SME market. As the host commented, Cyber Recovery is
bringing simplicity to a complex market
Neill and I accepted the award on behalf of our respective teams, recognising that bringing an Insurance product to market is very much a team effort – So, Well done Team Agenci and Team Lorega!
The Cyber Insurance market is volatile at the moment, as insurers struggle with understanding the [cyber] risk and the Security industry struggles to educate everyone else on what the risks are and how (and why) they need to take action. The Cyber Recovery product developed by Agenci and Lorega isn’t your traditional ‘cyber liability insurance’. It’s intended to give SME’s access not only to technical assistance when ‘bad things happen’, but people who can offer triage on all fronts; Human, Technical, Operational and Regulatory. It’s a powerful product due to its simplicity.
And the (other) winners are…
For me, the awards went by far too quickly and I would have liked to hear a little more about each of the winners and WHY they were chosen byt the judges. This was highlighted, but a few more minutes on each, I feel would have made a great night, perfect.
Special mention must always go to the ‘Life Time Achiever’ and on this occasion it was Ian Glover who was the very worthy recipient. He was also on our table and I got to spend a few moments chatting to him and his lovely wife. I’ve no doubt Ian will continue to bring great things to the industry and I hope we’ll stay in touch.
From CISO’s to Pen testers, the attendees are thought leaders and those who are pushing the boundaries in technology and innovation. The one thing that binds us; We’re all trying to achieve the same thing – a stronger and more secure society through the better protection of our information in ‘cyber space’.
So on a day when we wake to find out that Britain has voted to leave the EU, it seems strange to say the next few words, but I believe everyone in the Cyber/information security industry is working hard to improve the lives of everyone around us; We are stronger together.
