Gameover Zeus Top 5 Tips to keep you as safe as the Gods. The online threat that is sweeping the nation but what can we do to be safe?
1. Have Anti Virus
Have it. Install it. Update it. Run it. Keep it upto date and run a full scan.
2. Back up your data. NOW!
Back up Back up Back up. Make sure all of your files including documents, photos, music and bookmarks are backed up and readily available in case you are no longer able to access them on your computer. When was the last time you backed up those family albums? Do it now.
3. Don’t open unknown emails
DO NOT open attachments in emails unless you are 100% certain that they are authentic – read our article on protecting yourself from Phishing
4. Windows Update
Still not moved away from Windows? Make sure your Windows operating system has the latest Microsoft updates applied.
5. Keep your Passwords Safe
Never store passwords on your computer in case they are accessed by Gameover Zeus or another aggressive malware program.
Should I be worried?
The answer is, a little bit. There is a lot of hype around this particular vulnerability. The reality is this is going on every day. The tips above will keep you safe as the gods all year round.
This particular issue is not new.
“Starting in September of 2011, the FBI began investigating a modified version of the Zeus Trojan, known as Gameover Zeus (GOZ). It is believed GOZ is responsible for more than one million computer infections, resulting in financial losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars.”
