This is just a very brief post about the Inaugural Yorkshire and Humber Cyber Protect which took place today in Leeds, spearheaded by the Yorkshire Police and aimed at businesses across the region.
This is not an exhaustive review of each speaker as each was incredibly informative and their presentations packed with insightful and thought provoking facts and stories. So I would fail to do them justice.
No, this is simply a brief summary and a word of ‘thanks’ to all involved.
The Yorkshire and Humber Cyber Protect Speakers
The Yorkshire and Humber Cyber Protect speakers selected ranged from acting Police officers, national and international who sat perfectly well alongside academia and Cyber professionals (people who run Cyber companies). Each speaker offered words of warning, of the ‘Dangers’ that lurk in the darkest recesses of our computers, but throughout each talk, if you listened closely – there was a sense of hope and a ‘call to arms’.
The 375 people in attendance listened intently as each speaker gave their own personal anecdotes, facts, figures and perspectives of the challenges we face but the common theme throughout was

GDPR … is the new Black!
The Agenci team had a great time meeting with our industry peers, people new to Cyber and old friends who were just coming to hear ‘whats new’! We certainly spoke to a lot of people and without doubt the one topic we were asked about most was; “How will GDPR change things? (or will it?!)” In brief, our response is always the same… It’s coming. It’s unavoidable. Get Ready.
ISO 27001 and ISO 27001 certification continue to be hot topics of conversation and it was great to help people understand the link between GDPR and ISO 27001 the international standard for information security.
I would personally like to thank DCI Vanessa Smith for inviting me to speak at Yorkshire and Humber Cyber Protect and I look forward to hearing about the next. There is certainly lots to do, but I think its safe to say that Vanessa and the team did a great job in recruiting a new band of ‘Cyber Champions’.
So, just like the ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ Scheme in the 1980’s, I hope we have started a new ‘CyberHood Watch’ Scheme that we can all be part of, to build a safer Cyber Community.
